DEAR READER
Dear Reader,
The Black Death has always been something that has intrigued me. That might sound bad to say since it is such a tragic event; but I find it very fascinating, and I feel that we can learn from it to prevent future outbreaks. Upon choosing the Black Death as my topic for this Multi-Genre Research project, I knew that I would enjoy learning. I had a lot of unanswered questions coming into the topic that I yearned to know the answer to. My main, broad point that I wanted to learn about was: "How did the Black Death impact medieval society?"
Because I was rather uninformed about this topic coming into the project, a lot of research was necessary for me. In all honesty, all that I knew before the project was that the Black Death was a tragic event that took many peoples lives. Regardless of how much or little you know about the Black Death upon entering this website, I can guarantee you that from my writings after I researched the topic, you will benefit from exploring around the site.
During my researching, I decided to focus more specifically on how the Black Death impacted medieval society through the Church, the family life, and the economy of the time. On the tab above labeled "Black Death Essay," you can learn more about the impacts of all three elements. I could list them now, but I wouldn't want to spoil something that you will read about later on in the website. The following four tabs are multi-genre artifacts that are filled with information about the Black Death. By scrolling through these tabs you will get the opportunity to look over a timeline, view a picture collage, read a diary entry from Sarah Himes, and the history of "Ring around the Rosy." After those tabs, you will be able to read about why I chose the four artifacts that I do, read a self-reflection, and see all of the resources that I used during this project.
I used both print and non-print resources, including online resources. I also researched multimedia, including images and videos that also helped convey the answer to my question. The information found through these sources is now sprinkled throughout this website in various forms. These resources can be found on my Works Cited page.
The research I have done has definitely furthered my knowledge on the Black Death. I have learned so much about the topic that I almost feel like a Black Death expert. This period in time was truly horrific, and although it was tough to learn about, I am very glad that I chose this topic. This research has changed how I view history because you can never underestimate the events that have happened. By learning about the corruption of the Church, the economy, and in the families during the crisis, it can help us cope and deal with a situation that may come in the future.
I would like to encourage you to explore this website using the tabs above, so that you too can learn more about the Black Death and its effects on medieval society. By educating yourself, you can help to educate others and make a difference in the world.
Yours Truly,
Katie Bell
